Who is Jodo Kast?

by Joel on 13 september, 2010

Jodokast is a really ancient Internet alias of mine. Its only recently I have abandoned it but I still use it on some sites where I can’t change alias. Many swedes often mis interp it with Judokast which kind of translates into judo throw. So why this awkvard and easily misunderstood alias?

I have always been an avid Star Wars fan (episode 4-6 and most of the novels taking place around that time) and Jodokast is easily one of the coolest character in that universe. His trademark (shared with the more famous Boba Fett) is the Mandalorian armour.

Both Boba Fett and Jodokast are bounty hunters and since they both wear the same kind of outfit they are often mistaken for each other or more correct Jodokast don’t mind being mistaken for Boba Fett. I read a short story about Jodokast in the novel ”Tales of the Empire” and found it really intriquing with a character so clearly living on someone else’s reputation and using it for himself.

That in combination with the catchy name made me start using it as an alias. Since he’s not a very common character I haven’t had that much competition about it but you can find the occasional nerd out there. The obvious one being found at Jodokast.com, its a really ambitious blog/site about a guy designing his own Mandalorian armour Jodokast style (there is a ton of Boba Fett impersonaters out there).

Never knew about Jodokast. I should have read more of the novelizations.

I don’t know about that, a lot of the novels aren’t that good. Splinter of the minds eye and Shadows of the empire are of course great because their connections to episode 4-6.

I had no f*cking idea that there was a character called Jodokast. I simply thought you had misspelled Judo. LOL! :D

Believe me you are not alone in thinking that.

Wow. It always amazed me how everyone in the Star Wars universe got an action figure – that’s one hell of an expanded universe. That said, I own the original Boba Fett figurine which looks just like that.

You might be right about that. The guys over att jodokast.com are ranting about the Jodokast action figure being all wrong and more looking like Boba Fett. Its really amusing how important the small things can get sometimes.
