Nominated for Best Community Builder in the LAMMYs!

by Joel on 3 juni, 2012

Earlier this week this years LAMMY nominations was revealed on a very fun episode of the LAMBcast. This is my way to say thank you for nominating me (category Best Community Builder) but also to ask that you take the time and vote for me in the final poll that is up and running here.

As I’ve stated in several places I’m really proud of the nomination and I do hope I go all the way and win it too because I do think I have contributed a whole lot to the movie blogging community surrounding the LAMB. However, I would be a douche in not talking about my fellow nominees so here’s a breakdown on each of them and why they might have a good chance at winning.

Man I Love Films

Man I Love Films is a juggernaut among the LAMBs having an all star rooster of contributors but the credit in this category goes without a doubt to one of their co-founders, Dylan Fields. Its thanks to him I’m even writing this post. Had it not been for him the LAMB wouldn’t exist today. He’s the sole founder and the original shepherd.

If I were to bring up something else than the obvious previous paragraph it would probably be the awesome facebook work with a couple of daily game features. Most of the times people are really fast on the trigger on them showing how popular they have become.

Anomalous Material

This is another really obvious choice. Again the credit mainly goes to Castor Troy who seem to have the record of being the first commenter on a bunch of LAMB blogs Including this one. He has been all over the place for a while now but as I see it the main reason AM being nominated is the site itself.

Its a very welcoming and reader interactive blog. Some of my favorite features includes the Hollywood Fantasy Draft followed by the pitch session where you attach a movie pitch to your cast and director. Thats just one of a bunch of intense features that often manages to gather and involve big parts of the blogosphere.

Fogs’ Movie Reviews

I got to be honest here, Fogs’ more or less appeared on my radar over night. I remember seeing him around twitter and then hearing him on a LAMBcast before I got more familiar with his site. However, what really struck me was the insane amount of comments for such a young blog I’m not even sure its been around a year yet.

What I like to bring up that I think make Fogs’ exceptional is his twitter style. He is very bonding on there and has a very personal touch in his tweets almost making you feel that he is a long time IRL friend, thats something truly unique to Fogs’ I think.

Never Too Early Movie Predictions

To some NTEMP might be seen as the underdog of the bunch but David has done a great work within the LAMB community especially with the welcoming comity and I consider him as one of the most influential voices within the LAMB especially when it comes to everything related to the Academy Awards.

So there’s fierce competition without a doubt but I’d still want you to consider me for the award and I’m actually gonna quote one of my fellow nominees who give some very convincing arguments on why I’d be the choice:

Fogs’: Deny Everything is the blog of one Joel Burman, the reigning Shepherd of the Large Association of Movie Blogs. That’s pretty intimidating in and of itself – kind of like going up for a work award versus the President of the company. But you have to factor in that Joel has energized and invigorated the Lamb Community in a remarkable way. He got in, got active, and before you know it, he had an entire parade of Lammies marching behind him (myself included) singing the Lamb’s praises. He’s done an outstanding job, and practically embodies the spirit of this award.

I’d like to add that ever since joining the LAMB (April 2011) I’ve been really passionate about the community aspect. For a long time I was known as the king of comments until I voluntarily started up the official LAMB twitter @LAMBthe in (August 2011). It became a huge success and has more or less rejuvenated the entire LAMB community in many ways. Since february I’ve also been the Shepherd of the LAMB but I’d say that the main reason to vote for me come from the fact that the LAMB twitter has become such a go to place in the LAMB community.

Here are some more hard facts to look at…

* I RT all LAMB blogposts that are tweeted to me… It means I average between 30-40 blogpost RT’s on a daily basis.

* I created the Tweeting LAMB twitterlist that holds 170 tweeting LAMBs and is updated on a daily basis. Its also currently being subscribed to by 58 users.

* I started up the Daily LAMB which is an auto generated daily newsletter compiled from the official LAMB twitter list and the stuff you guys tweet me.

And then I haven’t even brought up the fact that I’m almost as active with my private twitter @joelburman

Now I need you to go and vote at the final poll which you find here…

Ha! That’s some funny stuff Joel.

I think my very friendly style you mention on twitter must show up in my comments as well, and that’s why FMR winds up with such an active commenting community. :D

Because nope… FMR still has two weeks before it turns 1 yr old. :D

Best of luck to you brother, its been a pleasure getting to know you this year and you have done great work for the LAMB. I’d be disappointed with any nomination that I got that I didnt win, but I have to say this is one category that if someone else won, they’re very well deserving.

Right back at you Fogs’ as I’ve stated before I do think its an open race in this category but I’ll be the first one to congratulate the winner if I don’t manage to rally my own troops.

I’ve turned in my votes already and I’m happy to announce that you wound up on two of my ballots. I’m thinking of doing a post where I reveal my votes but I might wait with that until the voting is over.

Sofia juni 5, 2012 kl. 04:54

Jessica juni 4, 2012 kl. 09:17

Sofia, I’m afraid you can’t vote for Joel. If I’ve got it right, voting is only open for LAMB members, right Joel?

Also I want to add that Joel apart from bringing new life into LAMB also is an incredibly social, likable, nice chap in real life and a founding member and driving force behind the Swedish film blogging network Filmspanarna. Sorry to all other candicates, but I just can’t think of any winner more worthy (even though I suppose I might be biased being Swede. ;) ) Joel deserves this recognition. Go you!

Hopefully Kai won’t read that little blurb about MAn I Love Film ahaah

Thanks for the kind mention of AM and myself Joel, you rock!

Svara

Joel juni 4, 2012 kl. 09:00

Well Kai and Dylan is a duo… where Kai is the rouge funny one while Dylan is the structured organized social media geek… who am I kidding… hahaha

Your welcome Cas I know I haven’t been around AM much lately but thats because lack of reading time rather than thinking that you are slacking or something. You are a worthy frontrunner in all 3 categories you are nominated in.

Bonjour Tristesse juni 7, 2012 kl. 11:12

Huge respect to all the others, but the LAMB really turned a corner when you took over. I think for 2012 no one deserves this award more than you.

Maybe next year we should have separate categories, one for blog with best active community and one for most valuable Lamb member.

Joel juni 8, 2012 kl. 05:39

Thanks!!! Its comments like these I need when I’m grinding new LAMB entries in october. =)

I like the idea of a MVP of the LAMBs however, it does sound like it would compete with best blogger a bit too much.
When it comes to the community award I’ve noticed a lot of the nominees and the voters seem to like it and value it quite a bit so its sticking in form or another.
